At its inaugural meeting held on Monday May 28th, 2001 Transparency Dominica Inc (TDI) elected a Board of Directors. The Board members are:

Transparency Dominica Inc is a non-governmental organization, non-profit and is a politically non-partisan movement with an exclusive focus on corruption.

What is Corruption?
Corruption is the abuse of public office for private gain. It means that: Decisions are taken not for the public benefit but to serve private interests.

Why fight Corruption?
Corruption hurts everyone. It deepens poverty. It distorts social and economic development, it erodes the provision of essential public services and it undermines democracy.

Why Now?
Increasingly transparency, accountability and good governance are part of the standards by which countries and societies are judged and by which aid and investment will flow to these countries.

Under the Cotonou Agreement, the successor to Lome, good governance has been added as a fundamental element to complement the “essential” elements of the agreement, which are human rights, democratic principles and respect for the rule of law.

“Serious cases of active and passive corruption” could lead to aid suspension. This does not solely involve corruption of EDF monies, but EC financing could also be suspended if corruption is proven in countries where the EU is financially involved and where corruption is a financial obstacle to development.
